Stafford went into the game against Bromsgrove on the back of an excellent win away at Bloxwich, knowing that anything less than a win here would dent our hopes of promotion early.
Stafford started very much on the front foot against our lively opponents, and the play for the first 10 minutes was tight and of a high quality. The game burst into life however with Colin Bishop steaming in at the back post to finish off a cross-field 40 yard pass by Gareth Minton.
Stafford contiuned to press, as did Bromsgrove, and the overall level of play was of a very high quality from both teams. Stafford again produced a wonderful passing move before half time, with Rich Bendall giving Stafford a 2 nil lead at half time.
Stafford knew that the next goal in the match would be vital, and unfortunately it went to Bromsgrove, who more than deserved to be only 2 1 down at this point. The game continued to be very finely poised, with both teams playing some excellent hockey, and as the last 10 minutes approached, Dan Rennie finished off another fantastic passing move to make it 3 1.
Bomsgrove hit back with another goal to put the game to 3 – 2 but Stafford held on for a well earned three points, and also allowed us to move to the top of West Mids div 1.
This coming Saturday we are playing at Stone, and a win will keep us top. If you are at a loose end, we have a half 2 start at their normal pitch if you fancy coming to watch.
