Because of the Save Stafford Hospital Walk, the Hockey Section has modified its plans for Saturday 20 April.
The President’s game has been cancelled and will be played later in the Summer.
The SGM will go ahead on Saturday 20 April, but at 12.30 pm at the Club.

Stafford Hospital needs your support to help prevent the downgrading or closure of many of its acute services. You can visit http://www.supportstaffordhospital.co.uk to find out more information and sign the online petition.
The benefits in having a fully operational local hospital with an A&E department are invaluable – just ask any hockey player. Our home pitch at Beaconside is less than a 2 minute drive from Stafford Hospital, meaning that any player who is unfortunate enough to get injured can be receiving professional emergency treatment very quickly at a time when they may need it most.
The proposal is to close acute services at Stafford Hospital, which will affect critical care, accident & emergency, and maternity departments. Please sign the online petition here in an attempt to help save these essential hospital services.
As well as signing the online petition, you can also visit the campaign shop in the Guildhall Shopping Centre (where Carphone Warehouse used to be, opposite HMV and the former JJB Sports) to find out more. There is also a public march taking place from the Market Square to the Hospital grounds on Saturday 20th April at 2pm.
You can download a poster here to show your support for this campaign, or access template letters to send to those who can make a difference. Above all, please take a moment to sign the petition. Hockey can be a dangerous sport, so let’s make sure we do all we can to keep our local hospital open just in case we should ever need it!
There is a leaflet drop being done tomorrow evening to promote the beer festival which starts on Thursday. Could all members please make an effort to assist with the leaflet drop and meet at the clubhouse at 7pm.
Stafford Hockey Club 1st team wrapped up this years season with an emphatic 7-0 victory against Kidderminster Hockey Club. Stafford had to win to ensure survival and were clearly highly motivated from the start. The early exchanges were fairly even and it took a good move from Andy Peatfield to allow Stafford to open the scoring, he raced past his marker before playing the ball wide to Steve Marsh, who then hit the ball into the corner to put Stafford ahead.
Kidderminster then managed to win a couple of penalty corners, Brad Evans in goals made a couple of good saves to deny the opposition. After that is was really one way traffic. The next goal was scored by Dan Howe who dinked the ball past a stranded goal keeper after another Marsh strike. Howe then got another after he slapped the ball home from an acute angle.
After the break, Stafford kept up the pressure, Chris Sunderland scored a great individual goal after he beat a couple of players before lobbing the goal keeper from a tight angle. Howe then completed his hat-trick after Dan Rennie un-selfishly played the ball into his path, allowing an easy finish. Peatfield then scored the next after a slick penalty corner saw him place the ball under the goalkeeper. The final goal was scored by Giles Rowden after player of the season, Ben Hollands passed the ball into Rowden’s path he neatly deflected it home. The man of the match award was given to Guy Malpass, a defender who put in a great performance to constantly keep Kidderminster at bay.
In what has been a tough league this year Stafford can point to a lot of positive performances with the emergance of some great young talent, in 15 year olds, Charlie Trotter and Brad Evans and 17 year old Dan Rennie and Andy Peatfield. With a strong youth policy and coaching set-up, Stafford will be looking forward to a great 2013-2014 season.
The Hockey Section SGM will be held on Saturday 20th April 2013 at 2:30pm in the clubhouse – please would all members do their best to attend if able to.
A copy of this year’s agenda is available here.
