We will be running some fitness sessions beginning on Tuesday 13th August from 7pm at Beaconside followed hopefully by some hockey. Please meet at around 6.50pm. We will also be running sessions on Thursday 15th, Tuesday 20th, Thursday 22nd, and Thursday 29th locations to be confirmed. (Tuesday 27th is the President’s game). The sessions will be aimed at all levels of fitness and all are welcome. I hope to see as many of you there as possible.
If you need any encouragement from the world of science, the benefits of exercise continue long after the exercise has finished.
Firstly, exercising increases your basal metabolic rate as it increases the number of mitochondria in your cells (the machines that manufacture energy). All this protects against obesity, diabetes (you can get that even if you’re thin), and liver disease.
Secondly, exercise is prescribed as a treatment for mild depression as it stimulates the release of endorphins, the body’s “happy chemicals”. So if you’re feeling a bit down because it’s the close season, then this could really help!
