Stafford Fathoms / 5th. Team went to this game, with a one nil win under their belts from beating Bridgnorth Fathoms last Saturday, but they knew they needed to continue, where they left off from last Saturdays game, as last November Stafford Fathoms / 5th. Team lost 3-0 away to Aldridge & Walsall Fathoms and Stafford within fiveteen minutes of this game starting, found themselves one nil up from Will Trotter, slotting home a really good cross from Jack Hodkinson. Unfortunately, this goal then sparked Aldridge & Walsall ‘A’ Fathoms into putting Stafford Fathoms / 5th. Team under quiet a bit of pressure and on a number of occasions, stand-in Stafford Fathoms keeper, Ashley Dunn, had to come to Stafford’s rescue Re : making a number of good saves, unfortunately he was unable to stop them equalising before half time.

The second half Stafford found themselves chasing the game and the opposition constantly put Stafford’s defence of Paul Rennie, Carl Dudley, Taran Bassie and Jack Fudge under the cosh / microscope and Ashley Dunn in goals for Stafford was unable to prevent Aldridge & Walsall ‘A’ Fathoms adding another 3 goals to their tally and despite a lot of hard work by Stafford’s midfield duo of Father & Son, Ian Hodkinson, and Jack Hodkinson and youngster George Hodkinson constantly tormenting Aldridge & Walsall ‘A’ Fathoms defenders, Stafford were limited to just a few chances in front of goals in this half, and the best chance to add to their first half goal, fell to substitute, Ben Waller, who’s shot on goal went just wide of Aldridge & Walsall’s ‘A’ Fathom goals.

Man of the Match this week was awarded by the whole team after the game finished, to young 11 year old George Hodkinson ( younger brother of Jack Hodkinson, who won man of the match award last Saturday ) for him coming on as a sub in the first half for Harry Coltman, and despite his age and size he wasn’t frightened or put off by playing against players a lot older than him and a lot bigger than him, he just relished the opportunity to play his first game of hockey for Stafford Fathoms / 5th. Team and the team appreciated his efforts and commitment by awarding him the man of the match for this game.

Both myself as Captain of the Stafford Fathoms / 5th. Team and Paul Rennie, as Vice Captain of the Stafford Fathoms / 5th. Team felt that the team this week, didn’t perform as they had over the last few weeks, but are conscious of the fact that the side has changed quiet a bit over the last few weeks due to players either being promoted or not being available, but we are both convinced that the team will bounce back from this 4-1 defeat.

The next Stafford Fathom 5th. Team game is home this Saturday ( 26th. October ) to Old Wulfs Fathoms Re : 10am push-back at Beaconside, Stafford and all Fathom Players picked to play in this game need to meet at Beaconside at 9.30am, the team should be the same 11 players who played yesterday against Aldridge & Walsall ‘A’ Fathoms with the exception of Ian Hodkinson, who is not available for this game due to other commitments and the goalkeeper, Ashley Dunn & Jack Fudger, who were just standing-in for Stafford Fathoms yesterday, as they are at the moment Stafford 4th. Team Players, but it should include the return of Matthew Till, Dan Wheawall, Peter Powers, Josh Thorne who all missed yesterday’s game against Aldridge & Walsall ‘A’ Fathoms, due to other commitments and Neil Jinks has volunteered his services as another stand-in as Fathom Keeper, before he has to go and captain 4th. Team away to Sutton Coldfield 8ths. ( Re : 3.30pm pushback ) and Brad Evans & Charlie Trotter from Stafford 1st. Team have volunteered their services again as Umpires for this game ). Stafford Fathoms / 5th. Team played Old Wulfs Fathoms at home in February and they drew 0-0, so hopefully this game will be a chance for the team to try and get back on track, after this weeks 4-1 defeat at the hands of Aldridge & Walsall ‘A’ Fathoms.
