1st Team Match Report v Bloxwich

Stafford HC 1st team got back to winning ways in West Midlands Division 1 with an impressive 3-2 victory against Bloxwich HC, the impressive part being they were 2-0 down after the first 10 minutes!

The Greyfriars Catering Equipment sponsored team, certainly like to make things interesting for their supporters and started poorly against a side who had only won once previously this term.  That said Bloxwich put the effort in and had Stafford sitting back, pressure told and some poor marking saw the Bloxwich forward given too much space and he fired home past stranded Brad Evans in goal.

Bloxwich soon doubled their lead when a couple of tough challenges saw them break on mass into the Stafford half, they entered the circle and some neat passing saw a close range finish.  Stafford then decided to start playing and were able to create some decent chances themselves, Dan Rennie was unlucky when his shot went past the goal after a penalty corner broke down.

Eventually the pressure paid and Stafford won another penalty corner, the ball was slipped left by Randall Moore to Ben Cantrill whose shot seemed to deceive the Bloxwich keeper and went in.  Unfortunately a number of yellow cards for both teams seemed to take the gloss of a competitive first half and the score remained 2-1 at half time.

Stafford really took the game to the opposition in the second half, Evans in goal not even touching the ball.  It was really just a matter of time before Stafford scored.  The equalising goal came from the skillful Randall Moore, he picked the ball up after a Charlie Trotter pass and ghosted past a couple of defenders before placing his shot beyond an onrushing keeper.

The winner came from another penalty corner, another slip left saw Ben Cantrill smash the ball in for his 7th goal of the season, impressive form from a centre back who was awarded the man of the match for a great performance.

A good result for Stafford against a competitive and skillful side who are much better than their results show.  Next week Stafford are away to Redditch, a team who were relegated last season.  Stafford will be looking for back to back victories.
