Stafford HC 1st team were left disappointed last weekend after losing 3-1 at home to Ludlow HC. In an up and down game, Stafford played some lovely hockey but were unable to put their chances away.
In poor conditions Stafford took an early lead after the energetic Charlie Trotter won a penalty corner, Randall Moore scored with a low drag flick. Unfortunately Stafford could not keep the lead for long as a defensive lapse saw a Ludlow forward left in space, he was able to turn and play the ball to an unmarked player at the far post to score. Soon afterwards Ludlow scored again, Brad Evans beaten at his near post by a straight shot.
Stafford continued to attack, and great work by debutant Jack Ball saw him hit the post and just miss out with another chance at the far post. Stafford won a number of other corners but could not get the injection right, when they did have a chance, the Ludlow goal keeper was able to smother the shot.
Ludlow then got the final goal as a midfielder made his way into the circle after a couple of stick obstructions before putting the ball under an advancing Evans.
A disappointing result, which sums up Stafford’s season, great play at times without due reward and some defensive errors. Stafford’s last game next week is away against Leamington Spa.
