Stafford HC second team fought out a 3-3 draw against Shrewsbury HC last weekend, both teams were undefeated going into the contest.
Stafford started well this week, Jack Ball scoring early on after good work on the right from Nathan Silitto, but Shrewsbury were a well drilled team and soaked up some considerable Stafford pressure before equalizing from a penalty corner. Paul Taylor-Grime was beaten by a low flick to his right.
After this Stafford sat back and this allowed the opposition the opportunity to put further pressure on and they grabbed their second goal early in the second half after Stafford failed to clear their lines. Two soon became three when another corner flick was deflected luckily into his own net by Elliott Glennan.
Stafford though soon realised that they needed to push higher, man of the match James Wild led the way with a tireless performance. Jack Ball popped up for his second after a run down the left by Mike Wymer. Stafford then equalized after good work by Ball and Richie Gibbons finished neatly.
After that Stafford could have taken all three points with a couple of late chances, but were grateful not to hand a title competitor all three points.
Congratulations go to Mike Wymer for a second consecutive award of donkey of the day, it was truly amazing that any of the opposition had a stick left intact!
Next week the second team are away to Telford and Wrekin HC.
