Stafford HC 2nd team cemented their position of second in the MRHA West Midlands Division 1 with a 4-1 victory against Finchfield HC.
Stafford made the journey to Wolverhampton with a strong team, full of confidence after the previous weeks victory. Stafford put pressure on the home side from the start, an early short corner was won and duly converted by Mike Wymer after a Giles Rowden shot.
Wymer then doubled the lead in a similar move, this time the provider Richard Bendall. In a team with an average age of below twenty, the hard work of James Wild and Andy Peatfield was matched with the flair of Will Trotter and Ethan Sweeney.
2-0 at half time was mainly due to some resilient Finchfield defending and an in form goal keeper but after the break, Stafford kept piling on the pressure. Richard Bendall grabbed two goals and would have had a third if the Finches keeper had not pulled off a spectacular save with his helmet!
Ironically enough the Stafford man of the match was given to Stafford keeper Paul Taylor-Grime after a triple save during a jittery spell. Eventually Finchfield got a deserved consolation goal after a neat reverse stick finish.
A great game, excellent umpiring and good hospitality after the game, demonstrating what a wonderful sport hockey is.
